Councillor Election Period Policy

Election Period Policy

Section 93B of the Local Government Act 1989 requires all Councils to adopt and maintain an Election Period Policy to explain to their communities how they will conduct their business immediately prior to an election period.

This policy will ensure Council elections are not compromised by inappropriate electioneering by existing Councillors; actions and decisions which could be perceived as influencing voters are avoided and the authority of the incoming council is safeguarded.

Importantly, the policy must be provided to all current Councillors and be published on the Council website.
