Governance

Governance refers to the framework of rules, systems, relationships and processes by which an enterprise is directed, controlled and held to account and whereby authority within an organisation is exercised and maintained. It encompasses authority, accountability, stewardship and leadership, along with direction and control exercised in an organisation.

The Local Government Act sets out a governance framework including policies, meeting procedures, public consultation requirements, reporting (financial and non-financial) and the roles & responsibilities within the Council.
