General waste bin collection tips
Published on 30 January 2025
We know it can sometimes get confusing about that you can put in your general waste – but as a general rule of thumb – if you think it might be a dangerous product then it cannot go in the bin. We have Transfer Stations across our community that can deal with a variety of different items.
Please DO NOT place the following items in your rubbish bin:
- Hot ashes;
- Liquids including oil, paint and solvents;
- Soil and rocks;
- Gas bottles;
- Medical waste; and
- Timber, concrete, bricks and building material including asbestos.
Please ensure your bin is put out the night before the day of collection – to avoid missing the collection.
Only place bins that have been provided by council and paid for in the rates. If you have additional bins they will not be collected by our waste contractor.
Bins will not be collected if they are: too heavy or overflowing.
Residents are discouraged from putting wet grass clippings in their bin as they can result in a blockage and result in the bin not being completely emptied. This can be frustrating so place dried lawn clippings in just before placing the bin out for collection. Grass clippings can be taken to the local transfer station as well.
