Easter Recycling Tips
Published on 17 April 2025
With Easter right round the corner, your home may soon be full of Easter egg wrappers and boxes … along with everything else in between. A lot of that packaging can be recycled with very little effort.
Here are some recycling tips that will help you to better understand what can and cannot be recycled.
Easter egg foil – the best way to recycle Easter egg foil is to scrunch it up into a small fist-sized ball – put as many wrappers as you can into the ball then place it into the recycling bin. Doing this ensures that all the small bits of foil can be included in the recycling and not get lost.
Aluminium foil can be infinitely recycled without losing any of its qualities. It also saves an enormous amount of energy – it takes 95% less energy to recycle it rather than creating new aluminium.
Remember to keep the foil clean – so make sure any chocolate is washed off first – and who wants waste chocolate anyway!
You could even make this a competition with the kids – who can make the biggest foil ball!
If you don’t have many wrapped Easter eggs then just place the foil into an aluminium drink container so it can still be recycled.
Cardboard boxes – these often come around your Easter eggs and like any other cardboard boxes can be recycled in your yellow kerbside bin. It is best to flatten them first so you can get more into the bin.
Just remember your mixed recycling can also take hard plastic (1,2,5), paper, cardboard and metals like steel and aluminium. All glass containers should be put into the purple glass bin.
