Published on 17 February 2025
On 14 February the Yarriambiack Shire Council Mayor, Councillors and Chief Executive Officer were joined by Jacinta Ermacora Member of Parliament for Western Victoria to officially open the Dunmunkle Community Library Precinct.
The project was carried out in two phases. The first phase involved redeveloping the former Dunmunkle Shire building, while the second phase focused on the outdoor activation and landscaping of the site.
Yarriambiack Shire Council Mayor, Kylie Zanker confirmed that the total project cost was $1,032,094, which comprised of:
- State Government Victoria, Living Libraries Infrastructure Fund 2022 - $578,163.
- State Government Victoria, Living Libraries Infrastructure Fund 2023 - $200,000.
- Commonwealth Government, Local Roads and Infrastructure Funding, Phase 4 - $253,931.
Mayor Zanker stated, "The project involved renovating the former Dunmunkle Shire building to create distinct zones for the library, a quiet space, a makers/craft area, and a children's zone. The renovated building now features an accessible toilet facility and a children's changing area. It has been designed to support a self-service library model, enabling the community to have greater access to the library resources. Additionally, the renovation includes the installation of a small kitchenette."
"In addition, the surroundings of the building have been activated with landscaped gardens, smooth accessible paths, disability parking, children's play area and shade, pergola area and installation of plants and grass," continued Mayor Zanker.
"Our objective is to expand the range of services available to our community by implementing a self-service model. Additionally, we aim for the building to provide opportunities for conducting classes, events, information sessions, and programs for early years and youth, as well as offering access to technology. The facility will also support an on-site in-venue childcare program", stated Mayor Zanker.
"We eagerly anticipate sharing this revitalised asset with our community and wish to extend our gratitude to both the State and Federal Government for their funding support. Without these grants, our Council would not be able to undertake such significant asset revitalisation projects", concluded Mayor Zanker.
