On Friday (14/02/2025), Yarriambiack Shire Councillors, Council staff and community members were joined by Jacinta Ermacora MP to celebrate the grand opening of the Dunmunkle Community Library Precinct - 59 Cromie Street, Rupanyup.

Complimentary drinks and a sausage sizzle were enjoyed by those in attendance, while the building was open for walk-throughs.  Free library memberships and sign-up gift bags were also made available to community members.  Around 45 community members participated in the grand opening activities.

The Dunmunkle Community Library Precinct project was delivered across two stages, with funding totalling $1,032,094, and featured:

  • Renovation of the existing building with zoned areas for the library, a quiet space, makers/craft area, and children's zone.
  • Accessible toilet facilities and children's changing area.
  • Self-service facilities to support community access to the building.
  • Small kitchenette.
  • Landscaping gardens.
  • Accessible paths & disability parking.
  • Children's play area and shade.
  • Pergola area.

Funding and support for the project's stages were provided by:

  • Living Libraries Infrastructure Program.
  • Local Roads and Infrastructure Fund.

Living Libraries Infrastructure Program enables Victorian Councils and regional library corporations to provide high quality infrastructure to meet their communities' changing needs.

Libraries, such as our Dunmunkle Community Library Precinct, are about so much more than books; they contribute to the connections that strengthen and enrich Victorian communities, and support a culture that values reading, learning and social connection.
