The Wimmera Emergency Management Team has developed the Fire Ready Guide for Yaapeet.

This guide was developed because Yaapeet has an extreme bushfire risk due to its location adjacent to the Wyperfeld National Park.

Yarriambiack Shire Council CEO Tammy Smith said that Yaapeet residents will receive their free copy of the fire ready guide in the mail over the next couple of weeks.

"This guide will help people to plan and prepare for days when hot, dry and windy conditions create a fire risk in the Yaapeet area.  It contains important information to help people to prepare their Bushfire Survival Plan, a fire map of the local area, emergency contact information and an overview of the Australian Fire Danger Rating System" CEO Tammy Smith said.

Ms Smith said that the current fires in the Grampians are a timely reminder that natural disasters can happen anywhere at any time.  "The Wimmera 72 website is another great resource that I encourage our residents to use.  Developed by the Wimmera Emergency Management Team, the website contains important information and links to help people plan and prepare for emergencies" she said.

If people have any questions in relation to the Yaapeet Fire Ready Guide and/or the Wimmer 72 website, they can email the Wimmera Emergency Management Team at wemt@hrcc.vic.gov.au

Copies of the Yaapeet Fire Ready Guide are available from the Yarriambiack Shire Council Municipal Office in Warracknabeal.  This guide and other important emergency information is also available on the Wimmera 72 website and Yarriambiack Shire Council website.
