Recycling Tips for your yellow bin

It has never been more important than ever to get the right things in the right bin. Follow these few basic rules to get it right.

  1. Keep it loose – don’t put your recycling into a bag in your kerbside recycling bin
  2. Most of what goes into your recycling bin is packaging materials – paper, cardboard, hard plastic containers, glass containers and metal containers can all go not your recycling bin.
  3. Hard plastic marked 1,2,5 only can go into the recycling bin. No soft plastic can go into the recycling bin.
  4. Broken household items like crockery, drinking glasses, toys and clothing are not recyclable and must go into your landfill waste bin.
  5. Recycling does not need to spotless but make sure that there is no leftover food in the containers by giving it a quick rinse.
  6. If you are not sure if something can be recycled then don’t put it into your recycling bin. In short - If in doubt – LEAVE IT OUT.
