Funding for Engagement Van

Warracknabeal Library receives 2024 The LBW Trust and FOLA Country Libraries Grant for Regional, Rural and Remote Libraries.
The LBW (Learning for a Better World) Trust in collaboration with Friends of Libraries Australia (FOLA) announced that 79 country libraries throughout regional, rural and remote Australia are the recipients of much needed funding through the Trust’s Australian Country Libraries 2024 Program.
Yarriambiack Libraries’ Words-on-Wheels service, delivered by Yarriambiack Shire Council’s Engagement Van, was one of the recipients to receive funding. The library received funds to purchase an electronic tablet device, screen protector and carry bag, which will be used to assist with digital literacy training.
The electronic tablet is available to community residents who utilise the Words-on-Wheels and Council Engagement Van services. The tablet can access the internet and be used for such tasks as: completing documents online, submit Snap, Send, Solve issues, and to set up your library BorrowBox account; the van’s friendly team can also assist where required.
The new tablet is now out-and-about in the library van, as it visits the following towns in Yarriambiack Shire on a fortnightly schedule:

The LBW Trust and Friends of Libraries Australia acknowledge libraries in remote areas serve as essential community hubs where people can gather, learn and connect.
“Cricket holds a special place in Australia and it is wonderful to be able to combine our love of cricket with supporting country libraries” says The LBW Trust Director and National Backyard Cricket Chair Marek Ristwij. “Funding has been made possible by the generous donations of individuals who participated in our National Backyard Cricket events, plus great support from The LBW Trust supporters. We look forward to seeing the projects come to life and the difference they will make in their community.”
FOLA President Jack Goodman says “Country libraries are at the heart of the community, providing havens where people of all ages and backgrounds can come together to share ideas, learn new skills and connect with each other. These grants are another example of the exceptional projects being run by Australia’s under-funded and under-valued country public libraries.”
Yarriambiack Shire Council encourages residents to visit the Engagement Van for the opportunity to chat to our friendly staff and learn more about the available services.
