Container Deposit Scheme Update
Published on 08 November 2024
Residents across the Yarriambiack Shire have enthusiastically embraced Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme, having returned over 1.5 million eligible drink containers since the scheme commenced just over 12 months ago on 1 November 2023. This has resulted in over $150,000 going back into the pockets of local residents and community groups across the Shire.
Since the scheme launched on 1 November last year, Victorians have wholeheartedly embraced the scheme and returned 1 billion containers. This means that close to $100 million has gone back to the community, including more than $950,000 to charities and community groups through our donation partners.
Victorians use more than 3 billion drink containers every year. Tomra Cleanaway are working to ensure that as many as possible are diverted from landfill, recycled into new products and that multiple benefits go back to the community.
Most aluminium, glass, plastic, steel, and liquid paperboard (carton) drink containers between 150mL and 3 litres are eligible for the 10-cent refund. Look for the 10c mark on the back of pack. CDS Vic complements your existing kerbside recycling service provided by your local Council. If a container is ineligible for a refund, please recycle it in your household kerbside recycling bin.
