These three small towns just a few kilometres apart were settled in 1902 shortly after the Melbourne to Mildura railway line reached this point.

The Mallee Field Days held at Speed during the first week in August each year, is a major highlight on the districts calendar and attracts exhibitors and visitors from throughout Australia.
