A new mapping tool for viewing land and community information in the Wimmera region has been launched as part of a project coordinated by Wimmera CMA.
The Wimmera Southern Mallee Councils Shared Regional Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Community Mapping project was officially launched on Monday 22 August.
Each council now has an interactive online community map that allows residents to view a range of information in the one place, instead of needing to visit multiple websites. It can save residents time by not having to contact Councils for common queries such as locating their nearest healthcare centres and schools and determining rubbish bin and recycling collection days, planning zones, and local Councillors' details.
A community mapping working group was established consisting of members from Hindmarsh Shire Council, Horsham Rural City Council, West Wimmera Shire Council, Yarriambiack Shire Council and Northern Grampians Shire Council. The project is also supported by representatives from Grampians Wimmera-Mallee Water (GWMW), Wimmera Development Association (WDA) and managed by the Wimmera Catchment Management Authority (WCMA).
Wimmera CMA has been involved in coordinating this project, as we believe it builds capacity in the region and positions the Wimmera well for future investment and attracting people to the area.
