Yarriambiack Youth Services have been in existence in one form or another since it was established in 1994, providing young people aged 10 to 25 years with access to up to date information and relevant services.

Youth Strategy

Following extensive community consultation with young people, parents and service providers across the shire, a Youth Strategy has been developed by Yarriambiack Shire Council and endorsed by Councillors.

The Youth Strategy is available to download below. Stay tuned for more details regarding the new 2023 Youth Action Strategy.

 Yarriambiack Youth Action Council

The Yarriambiack Youth Action Council (YYAC) is a youth committee that is supported by the Yarriambiack Shire Council as a channel for young people to  advocate for relevant youth issues to be supported in the community. It meets regularly and raises issues to the Yarriambiack Shire Council and provides an introduction to meeting procedure and working together for a greater cause.

The YYAC members attend regular meetings which are chaired and minuted on a rotating basis by the young people. It gives them opportunities to meet new people, develop their leadership skills whilst gaining an understanding of the mechanics of local government. Having a Shire Councillor in attendance, allows the young people to provide a voice for those aged 12-18 across the Shire.

Yarriambiack Youth Action Council (YYAC) Objectives

The Yarriambiack Youth Action Council Objectives closely align with the 2019-2022 Yarriambiack Youth Strategy.

YYAC members are to help identify needs for themselves and other young people in the Shire, and where possible help organise events and activities.

YYAC members are to participate in youth development and leadership opportunities.

YYAC members are to provide a link between Council activities, programs and objectives, providing feedback and recommendations to the Yarriambiack Shire Council when requested.

YYAC members will provide youth representation across many community forums so that young people’s voices are not only sought but heard.

YYAC members will seek and voice new ideas and opportunities for young people.

YYAC members will demonstrate civic mindedness, supporting tasks that benefit the community.

YYAC members will role model a positive image to other young people in the community.
